Building Our House of God
Not many parishes these days raise chickens. Not many parishes have “Paczki Day” (and not many parishioners
could tell you how to spell it). In fact, I don’t know of a single Catholic parish – in this Archdiocese or others
– that celebrates Mass on a working farm. And I bet you would be hard pressed to find any other Catholic
parish that’s growing by an average of 5 parishioners each week.
The exception, of course, is St. Raphael the Archangel parish. Because at St. Raphael’s, we’re proud to do things
differently.
When His Eminence, Francis Cardinal George, called on me to start a new Catholic parish in Lake County, I saw this
as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. After just one and a half years we are off to a fantastic start. Our parish now boasts
350 registered families with hundreds more attending Mass. We have converted a machine-shed into a beautiful
church featuring stained-glass windows, tradition
