The Central Library will undergo
renovations beginning May 17 to
convert the third floor into a quiet
study area.
Carleen Dolan, library facilities
and procurement manager, said
renovations will continue until July
2.
When the floor is re-opened to
the public, changes will include a
new fire sprinkler system, two new
group study rooms, six new study
pods, a new ceiling grid and tiles
and fresh paint on the walls.
Before
the renovation, the third floor is used
for storage, copiers and group study
rooms.
Librarian Eric Frierson said part
of the reason the library is converting the third floor is because students have been complaining about
noise and lack of study space on a
student comment board.
Frierson said the third floor will
be quieter than the fifth floor and the
new furniture will be more comfortable for students.
“It’s the next step,” Frierson said.
“We don’t want to do it during the
fall and spring semesters when usage
is the highest.
