The Arlington City
Council unanimously approved a resolution on
Tuesday to fund a nonprofit organization that
provides low-interest student loans for North Texas
college students.
The council voted to
fund the North Texas
Higher Education
Authority, Inc.
, which is a
program funded through
the city’s approval of taxexempt bonds.
By law,
the program is required
to obtain approval from
its sponsoring cities:
Arlington and Denton.
The approved bonds will
not be allowed to exceed
$220 million in loan
purchasing.
More than 13,000 UTA
students apply for loans
each year.
Nursing junior
Jason Robinson said the
resolution is important to
many students.
