Thunderstorms could not dampen spirits at Onteora High School’s
58th annual commencement ceremony, as the Class of 2011
graduated indoors, to the rousing applause of family, friends, and
faculty members.
Among the many students honored during the moving ceremony
was the late Killian Mansfield, who was awarded an honorary diploma.
Valedictorian Isabel Yannatos urged her classmates to keep learning.
“We have to continue educating ourselves,”
she declared.
“Our generation can
leave behind a better world.
”
Drawing on the Harry
Potter books for inspiration,
salutatorian H.
Andrew
Wilsey paraphrased the
wise words of Hogwarts
headmaster Albus
Dumbledore,
declaring, “It is not
our abilities that
show who we are,
it is our choices.
