The Department of Atomic and Molecular Physics (DAMP), Manipal University is a centre for
advanced research and teaching.
The centre is on its way to becoming a leading centre for research in
a vast area of atomic and molecular physics consisting of ultra-fast phenomena in atoms and
molecules, light matter interactions, optics and quantum electronics, condensed matter physics,
nanophysics and nuclear physics.
The Centre which initially focused exclusively on research has made its mark in the academic arena
with the introduction of M.
Sc.
Photonics course that got launched in September 2009.
This being the
first step by Manipal University towards meeting the national and international needs of expertise in
Photonics, the centre has also started a certificate course in ‘Laser Applications in Medicine and
Biology’.
Short courses of this kind which are application-oriented will be conducted regularly round
the year.
