emergency workers,
who served tirelessly and
in many cases heroically
during the recent
devastating storms, took
on an additional role
during fire prevention
week—the role of teachers.
On a drizzly October
morning, members of the
Olive Fire Department,
along with representatives
of the Olive Police
Department and Olive
First Aid Unit, volunteered
their time to share
important fire safety tips with Bennett students.
“It’s all about education,” explained Olive Fire Department Chief Chris
Winne.
“We want the students to know what to do when there is a fire and
to not be scared when they see us.
We’re there to help them.
” Looking out at
the schoolchildren, he recognized a number of students whose families his
department had assisted during tropical storms Irene and Lee.
