Introduction
The pilot project “Jatropha for local development” was
conceptualised in 2005 and started to be implemented in
Mozambique in 2007.
Its goal was to test the feasibility of
enhancing local development by using locally produced
Jatropha oil to run local diesel engines converted to run
on pure Jatropha oil, as well as for the local production of
soap and and lamp oil (ADPP & FACT Foundation 2006).
The project is unique and has recently received much
interest from various actors interested in up-scaling the
approach.
