Al Benn proves his dedication to journalism during his Davis Lecture
One thing many people do not know about former Auburn football coach Ralph “Shug” Jordan is
that he was a World War II veteran who participated in several invasions, including one at
Normandy on D-Day, where he refused to be evacuated after suffering an arm injury so he could
instead stay with is troops.
Jordan was quite the soldier, even receiving a Purple Heart for his
efforts in the Army.
Journalist Al Benn presented this information about Jordan’s time in the army by reading one of
his past articles to the audience of the Neil and Henrietta Davis Lecture Series at the Auburn
University Hotel and Dixon Conference Center at 6 p.
