The Nelson Mandela Metro will not be hosting a multi-million rand international golfing event named after the iconic former President of South Africa in
December.
Instead, the inaugural 1-million euro Nelson Mandela Championship will be played at Royal Durban Golf Club.
Port Elizabeth is the second city
on the Eastern Coast to lose an international golfing spectacle to Durban in a matter of weeks.
Volvo announced recently that it would be moving the Volvo
Champions event from Fancourt at George to Durban Country Club in the first week of January 2013 as part of its rotational policy.
As a result, the Africa
Open at East London Golf Club is shifted to the second week in February next year but retains its status as a European Tour co-sanctioned event.
