Whitsett commits early to Alabama

Houston resident and the 2007 U.

Junior Amateur champion.
Whitsett’s verbal commitment ends months of speculation about
where the Memorial High junior would attend college.
Long one
of the nation’s highest-ranked juniors, Whitsett received his first
college letter when he was in eighth grade, and it was impossible
to follow him at tournaments
without noticing the conspicuous cabal of college coaches
watching his every shot.
Whitsett said the decision
was more of a gut feeling than
a rational weighing of pluses
and minuses.
“If I did it through pros and
cons, then it would’ve been
Oklahoma State for sure,”
Whitsett said.
“But I leaned
toward Alabama.
