OUSTON—Marvin Odum, CEO of Shell
Oil Company, looked out into the audience
and saw kids sitting in the front row of the
news conference.
He considered the importance of
Shell’s contribution to charity through the PGA
Tour’s Shell Houston Open.
“It’s my hometown, so it’s extra special to be
able to do this every year in Houston,” Odum said.
“We’ll always go after this event with everything we
have.
”
Shell has been title sponsor of Houston’s PGA
Tour stop since 1992.
On Nov.
11, Odum and
Houston Golf Association President Steve Timms
announced that the 2009 SHO generated $2.
1 million
for local youth-oriented charities.
Although the contribution was $271,000 short of the 2008 contribution, Odum took delight in the number given the ongoing recession.
