with bringing the new
LPGA Tour Championship
to Houston this fall despite
losing its title sponsor.
When the event is
played Nov.
19-22 at
The Houstonian Golf
& Country Club in
Richmond, just outside of
Houston, it will mark the
first time the LPGA has
played in Texas since 2003
and the first time in 24 years
it has played a regular tour
event in Houston.
LPGA Commissioner
Carolyn Bivens told players
about the new Tour
Championship last October
at an event in Hawaii, but
neither the LPGA nor IMG
actively promoted the event
because there were still
unresolved issues with
procuring the host site and
a tournament organizer.
By February, however,
tournament sponsor
Stanford Financial collapsed after a Securities and
Exchange Commission
investigation came to light
in mid-February.
