The history of the World Population
Day dates back to 1989 when the
Governing Council of the United
Nations Development Programme
was inspired by the fact that world
population reached 5 billion approximately on July 11 1989. Since
then, the world population day has
been marked globally, with different
themes annually. This year, the
theme was Investing in Young
People, putting youth at the heart of
global attention once again.
