The only guns present at the Auburn City Council Meeting Tuesday were the big
gun councilmen running the show.
At the meeting the most pressing issue was that the state law and city law for
weapons are not in compliance with one another.
There was a discrepancy with what the
signs displayed and what the two ordinances of the law stated.
According to the ordinance in the Auburn city law it is questionable that a
handgun may be brought onto school premises with a permit as long as it is concealed.
City Manager Charles Duggan stated that he was concerned with the uncertainty of the
terms, and it could be better if the signs were changed to no weapons.
The whole discussion was sparked by the signs on two recreational buildings in
town that say no handguns with a picture of a handgun with a red slash through it.
The
words “no weapons” could be interpreted to be misleading.
