Because 70-80% of women at some stage of their life will become infected with candidiasis, more commonly known as thrush, and a smaller percentage will have multiple infections, they are the biggest group affected by the growth of the fungi, candida albicans. These tend to flourish in moist, warm, dark areas and a woman’s vagina is a suitable place for this to happen.
Common symptoms include itching and extreme discomfort in the vagina and a general irritableness. There may also be feelings of lethargy and low energy. You will find, too, that engaging in sex is uncomfortable and can cause pain. Further, there may be a discharge from the vagina coloured creamy white and has been described as resembling cottage cheese. Sometime there is also be a distinct smell associated with it.
