A Definition “Young people with one or more abilities developed to a level significantly ahead of their year group (or with the potential to develop these abilities). ” DCSF guidance At Ecclesfield School, we have a many ways to identify students including:  Teacher nomination and checklist  Testing – attainment, ability, potential  Assessment of students’ work  Information from parents The school monitors identified students and looks for gifts and talents in all learners including:  Physical talents in sport  ability rather than achievement, so that underachievers are amongst those identified  Leadership and social awareness  High intelligence (e. g. exceptional mathematical or linguistic ability)  Creativity We aim to ensure that a minimum of 10% of students from each year group are identified as Gifted and Talented and a further 20% are identified as being Able.
