‘Just’ information is better than just information
Human beings are known to be ‘social’ in nature.
What this means from an
ecological perspective is that human beings like to live in groups and interact
closely with the other members of the group.
This is unlike bears, which are known
to be the most individualistic or asocial among the carnivores.
As men evolved,
they developed the ability to associate signs and symbols with specific meanings
giving rise to the first of languages, both spoken and written.
It is this innate urge
of man to interact and share information with his peers that makes mass media so
popular today.
What makes humans unique in the animal kingdom is the cultural evolution that
followed the physiological and mental development.
As men began living together,
they shared not only their food and resources but also a collective pool of
knowledge.
