Fiji Soccer Made Historywhen they
Defeated Australia in Suva in 1977

The match was played at Burkhurst Park (National Stadium) on Saturday, March 19, 1977
It was a dull March 1977 afternoon as I stood on the sideline at
Suva’s Buckhurst Park to report on
the Fiji vs Australia international soccer match.
The Fiji team did not have
any players from Ba as Ba had planned
to tour New Zealand before the game.
But the makeshift Fiji team, coached
by John Lal and captained by George
Koi surprised the nation and brought
much needed pride to the Fiji soccer
community.
