JUSTICE HIGHLIGHT
Immigration Focus Shifts to Deportations, Central American Crisis
The Institute Justice Team thanks the hundreds
of Sisters, Associates, co-workers, volunteers,
students and friends who have advocated for just
and humane immigration reform over the past
couple of years. While legislation is now unlikely
for the foreseeable future, we created greater
awareness and momentum for change in the
future. You may read of our collective
accomplishments here.
For now, there is an urgent need over the August
congressional recess to rally around provisions
in a human trafficking law that protect children
migrating from Central America and to secure
funding for their care and the adequate review of
their cases.
The Sisters of Mercy add a unique voice to this
issue, highlighting the root causes of the influx of
these immigrants and urging the U.S.
government to consider its own role in the extreme pove
