developmental disability.
Recent statistics show that one in 150 births result in a form of
autism.
This means that 1 to 1.
5 million Americans suffer in some form from autism.
This
number does not include all those who suffer from PDD and Asperger s and other spectrum
disorders.
Since the 1990s autism cases have risen 13% in the US.
The cost to treat those who are in
need is $90 billion dollars a year.
Early diagnosis is important and can reduce the costs
associated with lifelong care by two thirds.
The ASA predicts that in 10 years these costs will
double if not triple and be somewhere in the vicinity of $200 - $400 a year.
