In an effort to build awareness of type 1 diabetes and raise money for a cure,
Tavares runner and mother of Stone Hubbard.
Tavares, FL, June 06, 2012 -- In an effort to build awareness of type 1 diabetes
and raise money for a cure, Tavares runner and mother of Stone Hubbard, a
teenager with type 1 diabetes, Maddy Hubbard is running the New York City
Marathon on November 4, 2012 as a member of Team JDRF.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body s immune system
attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas.
It can strike
both children and adults at any age.
It comes on suddenly, causes dependence on
injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of
devastating complications.
Part of Hubbard?s commitment to run for the Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation team includes raising a minimum of $3,500.
