What are Referrer Logs…and Why do I Need them?

The significance of referrer logs is perhaps overlooked in many cases by webmasters and
website owners.
Referrer logs can be used to trace and identify the visitors you get to your
websites - useful for security and promotional purposes.
So referrer logs are used in many
cases for statistical reasons.
Typical information that you can extract from these logs are
things like address of the website they visited from or search engine they used, whether
they arrived via a “linked” site or not.
This extra information is written into your access-log files.
But, by default, you’ll find that
your hosting account probably won’t include this feature of referrer logs, and if you do wish
to include them, there would be an extra monthly fee charged to you.
