D E C E M B E R 2 0 1 5 Australia’s LGBTI agenda since 1979 December 1 is World AIDS Day. A day to remember the 36 million people worldwide who have died from AIDS-related illnesses. A day to stand in solidarity with people living with or affected by HIV. In Australia, the fight to eliminate HIV is still very real. Especially among our community. We’ve come a long way since the 1980s, but stigma still exists. We must work together to challenge and eliminate it. Even after December 1, continue the conversation. Call out stigma. Lobby our lawmakers. And most importantly, listen to the stories of people living with HIV. With a united and compassionate community effort, a future with zero HIV transmissions is achievable.
