“Corymbe”, a permanent mobile base in the Gulf of Guinea
April 2011, Ivory Coast.
The French Navy ship on “Corymbe” mission enables the support of the Licorne
Force without increasing the severity of the crisis.
The mission of the French armed forces in the Gulf of Guinea, in place since 1990, is an act of naval
diplomacy that fulfils the strategic functions of anticipation and prevention.
It enables intervention from
the sea at any time in a zone that extends from the southern border of Senegal to the northern border of
Angola.
France has indeed decided to contribute to its diplomatic presence and economic support with
a military mission, with Corymbe as its naval element.
