“It‟s time for fashion to fight back”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Two fashion bloggers from the North of England are
launching a campaign asking the media to diversify its
representation of women.
Amy Claire Thompson, 18 from Sheffield, and Rachel
Charlton, 21 from Sunderland, make up two thirds of
the editorial team of British Style Bloggers, the
Sheffield-based website where the campaign began
in January 2010 by raising awareness of body image
issues in the fashion community.
It was so successful that they decided to branch out:
“we both want to work in the media,” says Rachel, “but we completely disagree with the way
women are portrayed.
You only seem to see one age-group and one body shape – and of
course some people are naturally like that.
But, it sends the wrong messages to those who
aren‟t.
”
Having unsuccessfully screen-tested for Channel 4‟s „Battlefront 2‟ campaigning project, the
girls say that they‟re glad they didn‟t get through: “we‟re very grateful for all the help
