IMPACT
Female athletes; do they get the same media attention as the male athletes.
The answer is no, but
we’re meant to be living in an equal society were there is no discrimination based on gender.
But
yet there are still inequalities that have not yet been addressed.
The most recent event that
happened this year were the under 21’s Westfield Matildas got cough up in a bawl with china,
when did the young women get their place on the news, not for something good, but for being
involved in a bawl.
Now that tells me that the media is happier to focus on the bad things that
happen rather than the achievements that the girls have made.
Not only have they tented to focus
on the bad sporting event they also tent to show on the news and newspapers more male sports
being shown.
Few women s sports receive live coverage; viewing is usually restricted to edited
highlights outside of major viewing hours.
The other point is that most female teams sports don’t
receive the right amount of founding, therefore this impacts the women team sports as they dose
receive sufficient amounts of sponsorship from sponsors.
This can impact the different viewers
in focusing and the participants playing the sport or people who are interested in the sport.
The
most female sport that is shown in the news or news papers is the sports that most women or
girls play and example of this is netball.
The reason for this is because of the margorety of
female athlete tends to watch or play netball rather than play soccer or basketball.
This has a real
impact on the players who play the more male dominant sports as they are not getting the some
coverage of other women in different sports.
Even though women who play in male dominate
sports are slowly getting the media coverage they need we need to give the encouragement that
need now.
Also in women sports there are not many well know athletes set as positive role
models for young girls in the sport.
This as I said before the women with a lower media profile
are affected as they will not receive the same recognition of women of a higher athletic profile
this impacts the other women coverage in the media and can affect the sponsors choice
