SSTS is a simple combat system for simulating boarding actions in an Ancient,
Medieval, or fantasy era.
SSTS is played with ship templates & miniature soldiers
(ideally) or with cardboard counters.
Everything needed to play out a basic
Ancients scenario is included.
THE BASICS
There are four types of people and 1 type of equipment on a ship:
1 Captain
Any number of Archers (generic for any missile troops: Slingers, Javelin men, etc.
)
Any number of Marines (soldiers trained to fight on shipboard)
Any number of Oarsmen (cannon fodder, but they might get lucky-- more
importantly, they row the boat—lose too many, and the boat won’t go)
Any number (usually a small number) of siege engines (catapults, arbalests,
onagers, etc.
)
Scale is not all that important as long as it is consistent—therefore you can say
that 1 plastic guy/counter/etc.
