“Help me; this is So Overwhelming” The Real Deal about Unlicensed Assisted Living Special: Care Education News January 2011 Issue 3 Issue 3 for January 2011 The cry used in this edition’s subject was heard recently by a legally blind man who thought he would be going to live in one of the more popular unlicensed assisted living programs in SE Michigan. These are programs which operate without seeking the regulatory designation of a home for the aged or adult foster care group home, bypassing the oversight and scrutiny that is typically associated with such a credential. This scrutiny can be incredibly important in matters of fire safety, on-going staff training and development, medication administration protocol and abuse reporting. There is also another real concern I have with these programs. As unlicensed models they are statutorily forbidden from rendering care as a group living entity. So they often contract with home health agencies whose personnel come in to render care or

Generally the nursing facility, primarily the non-Medicaid participating one, is focused on helping people regain agility, physical functionality and independence. They are geared for the short-term stay. Some stay longer. When this is the case the cost is always in the area of $9,000. 00 per month for private paid life in a skilled nursing facility. Of course, there are large, rather luxurious assisted living programs which can render assistance for less, although there are typically not nurses running around all day and night. More often than not the nursing home patient transitions to a smaller, more home-like environment. In mos

World Media Forums History: This continuing series of forums was begun in 1993, before CIME was established, as part of a “Program of International Media Education” organized by Dr. Teel for students in the his Perspectives course in Media and Globalization. In 1993, the first World Media Forum featured eleven Russian television executives touring the United States to purchase Western situation comedies for television audiences in post-Communist Russia. Rationale: Atlanta is an international city and a focal point for journalists largely because of CNN, but also because of the Carter Presidential Center and the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. The Forums, conducted in a formal manner with printed programs and the meeting hall decked with the full-sized flags of their nations, was intended to bring these journalists into contact with our campus population in an effort to (1) widen students’ appreciation of international news, views and geography, (2) let students hear through these

It is here right now, with training being offered at Toronto’s well-respected Centennial College under the name Media Engineering Design Integration (MEDI). Offered as a joint collaboration by Centennial’s School of Communications, Media and Design and the School of Engineering, Technology and Applied Science, this is an extremely unique program — and the first of its kind. FOOTPRINTS NEWSLETTER OF THE DERBYSHIRE DALES GROUP OF THE RAMBLERS January 2011 Nick’s Natterings The past 3 months have been a mixture of sad and glad news. Our President Ken Hammond died in August and a dozen of our members attended his funeral. At the Area Get-together on Oct. 17th , we heard that Arthur Osborne had just died. He was a vice-president for the Area and had done lots of work for the Ramblers over the years. On the glad side, the day of that Area Get-together was a brilliant, sunny day with beautiful clear views from Alport Heights. The large number of walkers went off on 3 different length walks but all managed to meet up at the same time for lunch at the Hankin Farm barn! Also on the glad side, congratulations to Rob & Jenny on their recent marriage, which they celebrated, apparently, up north around Settle. Last date for copy for next issue I7th March 2011 The Ramblers 75th Anniversary „baton‟ was nearly dropped when a consignment of them got lost in transit.

"This is an ideal time to check the radon levels in your home and workplace," states Benjamin Ingalls, a Certified Radon Mitigation Specialist with Air Quality Control Agency of Denver, Colorado. Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) - The Surgeon General of The United States has designated January as National Radon Action Month. According to recent reports from the World Health Organization and EPA, radon gas is responsible for approximately 20,000 deaths in the U. S. and 100,000 deaths worldwide each year. This equates to about 15% of all lung cancer deaths. Statistically, radon is the leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers and the second leading cause for smokers.
