MALAYSIAN firm Weststar has
bought troubled van-maker LDV,
but can not guarantee that all
jobs will be saved.
The takeover, agreed last
month, was aided by a £5 million
UK government bridging loan.
It will
secure production at their Birmingham plant, which is set to re-start
this month.
Labour MP Lindsay Hoyle, a
member of the Business and Enterprise Committee, said: “This
deal has given LDV a crucial lifeline, which will benefit the workers,
local economy and manufacturing.
“It is now essential that all concentration is given to ensure that as
many jobs as possible are retained.
”
LDV employs 850 workers and
1,200 people in dealerships.
Production has been virtually non-existent since Christmas.
However, LDV marketing director Guy Jones admitted: “We cannot guarantee the jobs.
The
marketplace will determine how
many jobs are required.
”
