Community Human Services Presents - Take Me Out to the Ball Game - a Summer Camp
Fundraiser
Community Human Services is holding a summer camp fundraiser to offer sponsorships
to children from very low-income, single-parent families, that live in Oakland and
the Hill District in Pittsburgh, PA.
Pittsburgh, PA, April 13, 2009 -- May 15, 2009 - 5:30 PM - at Bubba s Ugly ? 208
Federal Street, Pgh.
PA 15212
Community Human Services is holding a summer camp fundraiser to offer sponsorships
to children from very low-income, single-parent families, that live in Oakland and
the Hill District in Pittsburgh, PA.
While there is a different story for each
family experiencing poverty, there are some similar themes such as the struggle to
make ends meet and the desire to keep their kids safe while giving them the
opportunity to learn, play, and grow in a fun and supervised environment.
Funds
raised from the event will ensure this possibility.
CHS s summer camp kids (ages 6 through 13) are diverse - 60% are African American
or of mixed race; 15% are Hispanic and born in Mexico or Venezuela; 15% are Asian
and born in China; and 10% are Caucasian.
About 30% of their students are learning
English as a second language.
Local neighborhoods are plagued by violence.
Parents expressly support CHS because
the camp offers supervision in a nurturing environment that emphasizes academics,
physical activity, teamwork, kindness and fun experiences.
The summer camp fundraiser is designed to generate enough funds for low-income
kids, to attend an 8-week day camp program, which will provide them with
transportation, recreation opportunities, field-trips, nutritious meals, an urban
garden experience, and a host of fun-filled academic supports.
Donors who would like to support CHS s efforts can do so in a variety of ways:
· By purchasing one or two tickets to the fundraiser ($50 each);
· By being a sponsor of the event (levels range from $250 to $2,000);
· By participating on the summer camp fundraiser planning committee;
· Or by sharing this press release with others who may be interested in helping.
For those who cannot attend, please consider making a donation on-line at
www.
chscorp.
org.
