give “every resident an unprecedented opportunity to have their say about being a good citizen. ” The event was planned as giving local people “their chance to express their views on the Mancunian Agreement, which, if adopted, would set out the rights and responsibilities of every resident in relation to family and friends, to neighbours, to colleagues at work, to people in the street, and to Manchester as a city. The roles of local people and local public services in the delivery of the agreement are also covered and Manchester would be the first city nationally to introduce such an agreement. ” The Mancunian Agreement is integral to a vision for the city in 2015 which has been developed by the Manchester Partnership. It is also linked into the Respect Agenda (another recently released film) Well, it was popular, but had some mixed reviews included “great idea, but how do we put it into practice” “Does every citizen of Manchester sign up to it?”, “How do we enforce it? Is it carrots, sticks, rewards or punishments? And “if my car gets broken into, can I present it to the criminal to sign, or hit them over the heads with it?” Mancunians are proud of their city and its achievements and the idea of what makes a “Good Mancunian” a popular one, but for many, anti-social behaviour Artsnet Update 1 News 2 Events 3 Artsnet Members 4 Training News 7 Opportunities 8 inside this issue: is a real issue. But are we tackling symptoms, not problems? Is it about manners and respect or decay and deprivation? The impact of the Mancunian agreement will take years to see. The quote at the top could be rewritten as: “At the turn of the 21st century, Manchester embarked upon the most unlikely public works project of that or any other era: and the builders would be Mancunians themselves. It was an impossible task. But it was done, with many a halt and restart, and many a failure and many a repair. ” Now there’s a film to watch out for. It was an impossible task. But it was done, with many a halt and restart, and many a failure and many a repair …” (1) Oh, sorry, that’s the Manchurian Agreement. “The Manchurian Candidate explores a multitude of political ‘issues’ to a lesser or greater extent: the ill that is committed under the guise of defending a nation; the behindthe-scenes machinations of any country’s political process; the unpalatable relationship between entertainment, money and politics, and most specifically, the enormous influence big business has on politics and politicians”. At the recent Manchester Way event the Mancunian Agreement was voted in by 67% of the attendees . The event which was run to mation, support, training and mentoring across a range of artforms.
