William Paul Young, author of the
best selling novel The Shack, described
himself as an ‘accidental’ author at the
Congress on Evangelism 2010, held Jan.
5-8 in New Orleans at the Roosevelt
Hotel.
As a matter of fact, the former manufacturer’s rep actually wrote the book as
a gift for his six children aged 16-29 at
the request of his wife, Kim.
When Young was encouraged to mass
produce the book, he was initially turned
down by 26 publishers.
“They said it
(The Shack) was too edgy, had too much
‘Jesus’ in it,” explained the author, drawing a laugh from the crowd.
Young’s Thursday night address was
just one of several enjoyed by the more
than 630 people that attended the annual
national evangelism conference for the
United Methodist denomination.
