Jalsha Celebrates
25th Anniversary
with Honour,
Spice and Soul
The Mayor of Bexley Councillor Nick O’Hare
and Mayoress Mrs Maria O’Hare were Guests
of Honour at the Jalsha Tandoori Restaurant in
Station Road, Sidcup on Tuesday 5th May,
when the venue celebrated its quarter century.
This was the second visit by their worships,
who were previously VIP Guests in their
capacities as Deputy Mayor and Deputy
Mayoress in September 2007 at one of the
restaurant’s charity evenings.
An enthusiastic dance party ensued, as Shenton
Dixon, a West End show star, performed his
usual amazingly authentic tributes in his
‘Strictly Soul’ Show to legends George
Benson complete with guitar, Louis Armstrong
on trumpet, the funky Stevie Wonder, and

The decision to change the way
medical services are given to
local residents in Bexley has
been like a game between the
ruling Labour Party and the
Conservative Opposition.
Why our health should be the subject of a political battle is not clear.
What is certain is that if
you suffer from a stroke or heart attack you will
now have a lot further to travel for treatment
than before and judging by the increasing number of patients at the hospitals where A & E is
available you might have to join a waiting queue
when you arrive!
Local MP David Evennett, has written to the
Secretary of State for Health, Alan Johnson MP,
following his decision to endorse the Independent Reconfiguration Panel’s recommendations
that accident and emergency and children’s services at Queen Mary’s Hospital should close.
In his letter, Mr Evennett said: “I was bitterly
disappointed that you endorsed the recommendations that accident and emergency and inpatient paediatric services should close at Queen
Mary’s Hospital.
David Evennett MP is pictured with Bexley Council Leader Teresa O’Neill, London Mayor Boris Johnson
and Cllr Joe Pollard during a campaign day in Bexleyheath Broadway last year.
No smiles today!
AXE HITS
QUEEN MARY’S
“I believe that the views and concerns of local
people have been disregarded in this respect, and
I am still concerned about the provision of emergency services for the people of Bexley.
“The loss of accident and emergency services at
Queen Mary’s will be particularly difficult, as the
Urgent Care Centre currently on the site is not
yet open 24 hours a day.
I also believe that the
concessions made on ambulance provision and
the financial review are minor.
”
The Mayor of London told the Chronicle: “It is
disappointing that views of thousands of local
people have not been listened to on this occasion.
I believe it is vital that everybody in London has
access to quality health services and careful consideration should be given to any major decisions
which could impact on people in Bexley for years
to come.
