Jonathan Brown                     2. 10. 2008  English III                           Essay: Draft 1      A Sheep Named Dolly  Inside the genetic engineering controversy  We live in a brave new world.  More than ever, our surroundings are changing, many  times without us even noticing it.  The internet, urban living, and politics have all made a recent  climb to prominence in the last few decades – and already they have become a part of life.  We  are entering a digital age, with seemingly limitless possibilities on the horizon.  To many, it  seems like the quality of life is increasing, with no signs of letting up.  The innovations that have  come tumbling down the pipeline over the past have been widely acclaimed.  However, there is  another side, a side which not many people see.  It is the side of controversy and negativity.   Now there is yet another innovation that promises to bring us happiness and greater quality of  life, but it is not so widely accepted.  Its entry into the world has tumultuous, but is steadily  being acknowledged.  Even so, it has become one of the most morally controversial topics  discussed in centuries.  Although the positive aspects of genetic engineering are undeniable, it is  the moral conflicts we have that make it an unwelcome addition to society.  Although genetic  engineering has gained respect among the scientific community, it is the American people that  need convincing – for this decision will have a lasting impact on the human race.
