How a Multi-Faceted Approach to Site Promotion Can Secure Your Search Engine Positions In my last article on site promotion, I talked about why using one site promotion technique is a short-term solution. Now I m going to illustrate why site promotion is multi-faceted, and show an example of how these techniques can build on one another to help you get better search engine results from your search engine optimization efforts, as well as more traffic to your site overall. Then, in the next part, I ll tell you more about what some of the components to site promotion are, and how they can work together to help you maintain your travel levels and search engine position despite the ever-changing search engine algorithms. Truly effective site promotion lies in using a group of tools and techniques to draw traffic to your site from many sources that build on each other, rather than just one. To illustrate how some of these promotion techniques work together and build on each other, we nee

7 Reasons Why Your Traffic Generation Efforts Aren t Working It might be that the traffic method you ve chosen doesn t actually work. However, if you researched the method before you bought into it, that may not be true. Make sure it s not one of the following reasons before you abandon it. 1. Actually, it IS working -- but you have unrealistic expectations. Maybe you aren t going to get a million visitors a month. And that s okay, because it may not even take a million *page views* to get your traffic to yield a better income for you. It s more about increasing the percentage of visitors that make you money than it is about numbers of visitors. 2. You ve been inconsistent in executing it. Meaning, some days you re gung ho, but most of the time you re not executing your plan. It ain t magic, hon. Someone has to do some work at some point. Either you do it or pay someone else to do it for you. 3. You don t have a plan. You know what they say about a failure to plan. If

Business Blogging - 5 Tips to Help You Barrel Through Writer’s Block It’s inevitable. Everyone hits the wall. Whether you’ve been blogging ten weeks, ten minutes, or ten months, eventually you’ll find yourself with absolutely nothing to say. Or so you think. So what in the world do you do when you’re stumped? 1- Talk about what you’ve already talked about Pick a topic you’ve gone over before and give it some spin. Try a new angle, like playing devil’s advocate. For example, if you are a search engine journalist, and last week your position was that most mainstream sites need Google traffic to survive, try proving your point from the “con” perspective, instead of the “pro” position. There are dozens of ways to write about the same thing. By putting your point another way, you might give someone in your audience what a client of mine referred to as an “Ah-ha!” moment. That s when they realize the true value of the items for sale at your site to them and their business. 2- Talk

5 Reasons Why Your Site Needs to Publish a News Feed It seems like everyone is talking about RSS Feeds. They’ve been around for years but the buzz is up about them as the technology continues to go mainstream. Some people are reportedly abandoning their browsers and viewing the web through their readers - but they hardly represent the general public yet. So does your site need one? This question is somewhat like asking if your site needs a newsletter. Sure, the sky won’t fall tomorrow if you don’t get one today, but once you realize the benefits of having a news feed for your site, and try it for yourself, you may become an addict like the rest of us. Reason #1: More free traffic to your site I’m not exaggerating when I say that a frequently updated feed can bring you massive amounts of traffic in a short time period. This won’t be true forever. Here’s a snapshot in PDF format, of just the feed-originating traffic to a new page of my site for the first 24 hours it opened. http:

How A Change in Perspective Can Help You Make More Holiday Season Sales: Pt. One Some sites are perfect for the Christmas season - their products fit easily into the idea of gift-giving. But what if the products and services you offer are for small business owners? Or, as many of my clients ask, how do I survive the holiday season if I sell intangibles? When a couple of people brought this question up to me in early fall, my answer was that I d probably make enough money in October not to have to worry about November and December at all. Prevention made sense to me at the time as being the best cure, but it also doesn t mean that I ve resigned myself to slow sales during the holidays. On the contrary, I think that most people who have businesses that offer intangibles such as ebooks, downloadable software, or marketing services can just as much, or more money as the rest of the year by changing tactics slightly. In other words, just because much of the world is more focused elsewh

RSS and Blog Marketing for Real Estate Earlier this month, Realtor Magazine announced that they would be featuring an article about Tampa Bay Realtor John Mudd and the success he has been having in attracting prospects and media attention with his blog on real estate. Since then, many others in the Real Estate market have been curious about how to implement similar strategies to capture leads in their areas. This article is part of a series that provides insight to the unique ways that the strategy of blogging and the use of RSS and/or Atom feeds can be applied as part of your web promotion strategy. 1. Capture better search engine positioning for your local market with a blog. By now it s apparent that blogs with unique content can bring you better search engine rankings. This advantage is strengthened when you use a blog software tool that enables you to publish posts on your own server, which we ll go over in more detail in part two of this article series. How to See What Pages of Your Site Google Has In Its Index There is a lag time between the indexing or updating of your site, and the time it takes to show new results in the database. Depending on your site, where it was linked from, who it was linked from, and who knows what other factors, the amount of time varies. With the method I teach in my book it seems to take two to four days on average for the Googlebot to stop by initially, and then another two days to one week to appear in search listings for the first listing. But even if it takes more than four to seven days for the Googlebot spider to show up at your site, or to return, if ever, there are several ways you can track the results. First, you can use Google itself. Go to www. google. com and type in site: then your domain name. So for yahoo. com, you’d type in “site:yahoo. com”. The results will show you which pages of your site are showing up in Google. If you know you won’t have time to check on a daily basis, you

You can access it at http://www. blogsearch. google. com/ What the Big Deal Is A lot of people have probably heard about this extra version of search Google has added and are greeting it with a big yawn, particularly since it s still in Beta. So what is the big deal, anyway? The big deal is that the top search engine in the world, which was already paying particular attention to blogs in regular search results, seems to make a subtle statement with the introduction of blog-specific searches. Blogs are important enough to warrant their own special level of search, and not just as an advanced search option, but in their own search engine. If search engines are paying attention to blogging that closely, you should be too

How You Can Get A Free Enhanced Listing in Yahoo With Your RSS Feed Last week, I cheated on my long-time lover Google, with my old boyfriend Yahoo. And ever since that day, I have considered becoming a bigamist. (To full understand what that crazy drivel was about read my last article about how to get your RSS feed listed at Yahoo within hours - in 5 simple steps here: http://www. freetrafficdirectory. com/rssyahoo . ) Today, I decided to go ahead and break the law - Yahoo is my new other husband. What am I talking about, and what does this mean for your site? When I first discovered that you could get into Yahoo’s RSS Feed directory so quickly, I started making a lot of observations about their site. The first thing I noticed is that they made some subtle changes to their search page. That same day, I noticed that certain sites have more information in their listings than others. Try this search at Yahoo for example "Get Your RSS Feed Listed Within Hours", quotes and all. Scrol

Why You Should Use (Not Abuse) Forums to Increase Your Traffic There are dozens of reasons why you should look up the forums that are related to your market and post to them often. Here are 3 to get you started. 1- Get to Know Your Market as both an Associate and An Expert The research alone is a good enough reason to at least sign up to some forums and read. Just by reading posts in forums, you can hear what your market concerns are, straight from consumers. You ll be able to find what their pains are - look particularly for frequent questions that don t appear to have solutions. For example, if you sell timeshares, and you join travel communities, you may often hear questions asking for the best times of year to visit a certain region or locale. With this information you could start a section at your site for every listing that tells the cheapest time to travel for that area, the best time of year for good weather, and other special bits of information a traveler might want.
