Síntesis del EC: “Acciones que favorecen empleos que respetan la dignidad de todos” 20 / abril / 2013 1 Síntesis del Encuentro de conocimientos Guatemala, 20 / abril / 2013 Los Encuentros de conocimientos son reuniones que parten del reconocimiento del saber que poseen las familias en extrema pobreza, proponiendo un espacio de diálogo y de reflexión con otros, que permita conocerse, formarse en la toma de la palabra y el ejercicio de “escuchar”, elaborando un saber que tiene en cuenta el conocimiento de todos. social spectrum, extreme poverty is the result.

vital that we all seek to forge such opportunities so that
we can all benefit from the experience and the knowledge

1 When people living in poverty are deprived of the opportunity to meet people from the opposite end of the social spectrum, extreme poverty is the result. It is therefore vital that we all seek to forge such opportunities so that we can all benefit from the experience and the knowledge of the most disadvantaged. Failing to do so, and thus falling short of the human ideal of living side by side in justice and in peace, constitutes a violence done to our own humanity. Getting to know and understand each other can be a source of profound joy for all those willing to engage in a true meeting of minds. Given that we all work at different speeds, real respect means many things: it means not finishing the phrase of someone who has trouble doing so; it means not cutting someone’s thoughts midstream; it means not trying to rewrite an idea that may appear at first to be confused; it means not being afraid to embrace the uncomfortable silences that are part and parcel of thinking things thro

Las crisis financieras, medioambientales y sociales que golpean nuestro mundo repercuten negativamente sobre las personas que viven en los lugares más denigrados de nuestro planeta y a diario sufren con creces las consecuencias: acceso a sus derechos cada vez más lejano y aumento de la desconfianza que se les tiene. Hasta les reprochan los esfuerzos que hacen para sobrevivir y seguir siendo solidarios; también a menudo se les acusa de degradar el medio ambiente. Se desconoce el impacto de dichas crisis en la vida de las poblaciones más pobres y las políticas adoptadas para corregir sus efectos no son reflexionadas con ellas. Es así como la información que las familias pobres nos aportan sobre la ecología no es tomada en cuenta, siendo ellas quienes se ven obligadas a vivir en viviendas precarias, bajo los puentes, al borde de barrancos o cerca de vertederos. 1 ‘’La miseria es violencia, Romper el silencio, Construir la paz’’ constituye pues el corazón y el hilo conductor de una búsqueda llevada a cabo por el Movimiento ATD Cuarto Mundo en 25 países. Los actores, han sido personas en situación de gran pobreza e investigadores del mundo universitario comprometidos en una dinámica de ‘’Cruce de saberes’’, que han trabajado durante tres años juntos. Sus conclusiones son inapelables: ‘’La miseria, son injusticias y violencias en todos los sentidos’’. Violencia del olvido por nuestras sociedades de sufrimientos soportados por familias de generación en generación. Niños, jóvenes, adultos despreciados y tratados ‘’como si no fuéramos seres humanos’’. Their history of resistance is founded on their sense of dignity. They have inherited it from those who have preceded them throughout the centuries, in the face of constant deprivation and humiliation, treated as though they were no longer human beings. Through this resistance, they have gained an irreplaceable experience and know-how – a know-how that is not recognized by our societies. They are even criticised for fighting to survive and maintaining their solidarity. They are also often accused of damaging the environment. Little is known about the impacts these crises are having on the poorest, who are excluded from the debate about how to define policies to remedy their worst effects.
