1 Important ABC’s of Second Grade After School Activities (ASA) The After School Activities program runs after school from 3-4:00 PM for 6 weeks during each of the four quarters. Signup sheets and ASA course descriptions will be distributed in the beginning of each quarter. Quarter 1 ASAs will begin Monday, September 6. Attendance Many second grade learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates. Therefore, it is next to impossible to recreate these activities at home. Please view school as a priority and see to it that your child attends every day except in cases of illness or emergency. When your child is absent, please email the office explaining the reason for the absence. If your child is going to be out for an extended period of time, please let me know so that assignments may be prepared in advance. When students are absent, they are responsible for making up the work. Students will have their ―Make-Up‖ work on their desk when they return.

Dear Families, I usually send out daily e-mails; occasionally things do come up, and if so you will not receive one. The emails outline a general review of what students did in class, a reminder of the assigned homework for the evening, and other news about school events or requests. You can also visit our photostream (http://www. flickr. com/photos/yungm) on Flickr to check out the day-to-day pictures of our classroom. I hope that this helps in keeping the communication lines open and gives you an idea of what goes on in Room 206 everyday! I had a wonderful day getting to know your child, and I m truly excited about the talent and special attributes each of them have! I have high expectations for all of my students, and so the work in my classroom will reflect that. As always, if you have any questions or concerns let me know and we can set up a meeting to address them. Sincerely, M. We ve Got the Scoop on Multiplying! Our classroom will be starting a new unit called "We ve Got the Scoop on Multiplying. " I am challenging the students to MASTER their multiplication facts beginning next week! We will spend a week learning each fact − 0 s through 12 s. At the end of the week we will take the timed test. The students will be required to receive 98%−100% on the test to master the fact. If the fact is not mastered, they will be able to take the test again until it is mastered. Each time the students master a fact they will earn a part of an ice cream sundae. This includes their napkin, bowl, spoon, sprinkles, ice cream, syrup, and much more! At the end, we will be making real sundaes and your child will make what he/she has earned. Each week we will learn different ways to help the students remember the facts. I will send this information home in the weekly newsletter. All tests will be returned home the day the test is taken so you will know what facts to study
