Serre Chevalier Transfer by RICK LOMAS on JANUARY 14, 2011 in AIRPORT TRANSFERS Just a few years ago if somebody wanted a Serre Chevalier transferfrom Turin Airport, it would just be a matter of asking around The Extreme Bar (R. I. P) and you would find someone who would be willing to dig their car out and head off to Italy to do it. I did it a few times in my Ford Sierra until I came a bit unstuck one time coming over the Col du Montgenevre: it’s definitely a fair weather occupation in a rear wheel drive car. I think back in 2001 we used to reckon that 50€ would cover the expenses, but doing a Serre Chevalier transfer is not as cheap as that anymore. Petrol is more expensive and those tolls on the Turin to Oulx motorway have been creeping up all the time. Here’s a bit of information about the airports to give you an idea of the journeys involved:The nearest airport To Serre Chevalier is Turin (Caselle) in Italy with a transfer time of between 1. 5 – 2. 5 hours. Serre Chevalier Airport Bus As much as we love Serre Chevalier – it does have a problem, it has always been a bit of a nightmare getting here on public transport from either Grenoble or Turin airports and up until now there has not been such a thing as a Serre Chevalier Airport Bus. Funnily it’s actually slightly easier to leave on public transport. Taxis were ridiculously expensive as they had a strangle hold on the route and car hire from Grenoble means dealing with the Lautaret Pass, which is intimidating to say the least, all switch-backs and oblivion if you get it wrong – not the least stressful start to a holiday (Turin is a much easier drive). However there is now a solution to the Serre Chevalier airport busproblem. This season the company is running scheduled Saturday airport bus services at a cost of 45€ a head, and run thusly: Serre Chevalier to Grenoble GNB 16:00 Grenoble GNB to Serre Chevalier 22:30 Serre Chevalier to Turin Caselle TRN 06:00 Turin Caselle TRN to Serre

Montgenèvre always opens a little bit earlier, because it’s a little bit higher and tends to get the snow settled quicker than it does here. Montgenèvre is just a 15min drive from Briancon and is quite a cool ski area. Montgenèvre’s skiing is at the Western end of the Milky Way circuit; it’s the only French resort on it. In addition to the skiing in Montgenèvre itself (100km of pisted ski runs), the appropriate ski pass (I’m not sure if The Serre Chevalier pass covers this though) will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Milky Way ski resorts of Clavière, Sansicario, Sauze d’Oulx and Sestrière. At the Montgenèvre Ski Resort the skiing takes place on both sides of the main road that runs through the resort and over the pass into Italy

Here are some Hotel Plein Sud Reviews: “We booked this hotel at the last minute and were not expecting too much – but we were pleasantly surprised on our arrival. All the Staff were very friendly, as was the rep from Crystals. The room was “basic” according to the hotel but was actually very comfortable with a great shower and “hot-hot” water! There was also a small heated swimming pool that was excellent for relaxing the sore leg muscles after a hard day’s skiing (by the way Serre-Chevalier has to have some of the best skiing I’ve seen for years – though very much family orientated!) The jewel in the crown of this hotel though had to be the food – I believe this hotel was classed as 2 or 3 star – but the food was better than much of what I’ve eaten in 5 star hotel (apparently

Chantemerle Apartments by RICK LOMAS on JANUARY 4, 2011 in APARTMENTS As you may be well aware by now Chantemerle is right slap bang in the middle of the Serre Chevalier ski resort next to the main lifts of the area. This is probably the most sought after place to stay for a Serre Chevalier ski holiday, purely because of the proximity to the lifts. For this reason Chantemerle apartments are always going to be popular. There is a great selection at the moment. Carole Ward has a nice little studio at Le Bois des Coqs, which is ideal for couples or you can squeeze 4 in if you want to save a few quid. If you are just a couple or even on your own, then Studio Beynon has to be one of the best value for money studio flats in the Chantemerle apartments line up at just 200€/per week. It’s a small studio that is only suitable for 1 or 2 people, but it is superbly located and has a superb location. Next door to Studio Beynon is the Mountain High Seasons apartments which are owned by Jo and

Here’s a little video I did yesterday to find the price of a Turin Serre Chevalier transfer. Our local company The Alpine Transfer Company charge 45€/ per person, each way for their scheduled transfers. The example I gave was a group of 4 people with 2 pairs of skis and an extra bag. The Alpine Transfer Company do not charge extra for skis, snowboards or large bags – it’s just a straight 45€. As you can see in the video I plugged these examples into the site of another well known transfer company ATS and the total came out as $435. 99 (why US dollars, when I had selected the UK site?) – converting this into Euros comes out as 329€ which is considerable 149€ than the 180€ it would have cost with The Alpine Transfer Company. So this really is a no brainer, for a cheaper Turin Serre Chevalier transfer just use The Alpine Transfer Company. Without wanting to slag off ATS too much, I can say that I did work as an affiliate for ATS some years ago and they were notoriously difficult whe

Car Ferries to France by RICK LOMAS on JANUARY 10, 2011 in TRAVEL You will have found this page (I hope) by either searching for ‘car ferries to France‘ or you were looking for something to do with Serre Chevalier and stumbled accross it in the process. Anyway the long and short of it is Serre Chevalier is place where people like to come and a lot of people like to come here from England. I do this myself quite a lot too as I still have parents and in-laws in England and they like to see their granddaughters. Now then, yes sure you can fly here – Turin in Italy and Grenoble Airport in France are sort of equidistant (but very different journeys) and we can arrange airport transfers right here on this site with no problem. But there are still quite a lot of people who like to drive here from England, me included. So bearing this in mind, lets look at car ferries to France. Well the big players are P&O and SeaFrance who do the Dover Calais route, but personally I despise both of the

Turin Montgenèvre Bus by RICK LOMAS on JANUARY 16, 2011 · 0 COMMENTS in AIRPORT TRANSFERS It is possible to get from Turin Caselle Airport to Montgenèvre by public transport, but quite frankly it really is a pain. There isn’t really such a thing as a Turin Montgenèvre Bus. As far as I know it involves a bus from L’Aeroporto di Torino to Porto Novo Stazione and then getting the train from there to Oulx station (probably changing at Bussoleno) and then getting a bus from Oulx to Montgenèvre (I think there is one). Are you getting the picture? It’s not a fun journey, especially if you are laden with bags and skis or snowboards. Luckily The Alpine Transfer Company do a Turin Montgenèvre buswhich is just 35€ per person. This is a real bargain considering that you can take as much luggage and/or skis with you without paying a penny extra. The Alpine Transfer Company is a fully licensed Serre Chevalier based transfer company in its fourth year. They provide reliable, easy and competiti

Festival Campervan Hire The increasing popularity of festivals in the UK and Europe has meant that accommodation, for those who don’t fancy being in a tent, is in much greater demand including Campervan and Motorhome hire. In recent years, particularly 2010, festival campervan hire suppliers have quickly run out of vehicles even many weeks before the festival season has got into full swing. The secret is to get in early; you’ll find better rates, more choice and have a much better chance of securing the vehicle you’re after. For those who are new or returning to campervan hire much has changed over the past few years and the vehicles people choose for festival campervan hire are no exception. Long gone are the days of cramped conditions, uncomfortable beds and minimal facilities. The vast majority of Campervans today come with bathrooms including shower and toilet, fully equipped kitchen, LCD television, DVD players, double beds (and we mean double beds not large singles!) and ple

Hire a Campervan this Weekend Does that sound a bit frivolous? I mean it’s only February, but why not hire a campervanand go somewhere, take your family or just go somewhere nice with your partner. The weather isn’t looking fantastic just yet, but wouldn’t it be nice to just getaway for the weekend? Motorholme are now offering weekend campervan hire as well as ‘by the week’ campervan hire. The need came for this from the popularity of music festivals in the UK, quite often people would like to hire a campervan on Friday morning and then return it on the Monday afternoon. So a weekend campervan hire is actually more like 4 days – with 3 nights included. Another popular reason to hire a campervan this weekend is to see if you like it. There are many people right now in the UK considering a motorhome hire holiday this summer, but there is always the off chance that it isn’t for you (although I can’t think for the life of me why that would be) – in which case you could do a ‘dry run’.
