The Importance of Latent Semantic Indexing If you know anything about internet marketing and SEO, then you’ve probably heard about LSI, or latent semantic indexing. What is it? And why is it so important for your SEO? Let’s find out. First, LSI is the process by which a writer layers an article with a number of special keywords. So, instead of basing an article around a single keyword, like “blue widgets”, the article might mention related topics like “aquamarine widgets”, “cheap widgets for sale” and other terms. The end result of this work is that you get an article layered with terms that rank. In general, an LSI article will have one or two main keywords. These words should maintain a density of around 1. 5 to 3% throughout the article. Other keywords can be mentioned less frequently, or just once. How does the Google Penguin update affet you? If you’ve been reading any SEO blogs lately, then you know that the major news story of the week is Google’s Penguin update. We’ve already explained what the Google Penguin update is HERE. Today, we’re going to teach you how that update will affect your websites. Beware your link building tactics Penguin is putting a renewed emphasis on where your website is getting its links from. Since Google’s search algorithm views links as ‘votes’ for your website in the search rankings, it’s important for them to optimize the way their algorithm views links. Specifically, your website will come under suspicion – and could be penalized – if Google notices a lot of links from untrustworthy sources. For example, if you’ve used programs like Xrumer or Scrapebox to spam comments and forum profile links around the internet, Google will catch onto that quickly. In fact, Google has been catching onto these linkbuilding tactics for quite some time. How

Recent Study Proves that Tweets Affect Google Rankings It should come as no surprise that social media indicators like Retweets, Facebook Likes, and +1s all play a role in a site’s ranking. However, a recent study determined just how much Twitter affects a particular URL’s ranking. The massive study, conducted by an SEO firm called Branded3. com, proved that there is a strong correlation between the number of tweets that a URL receives and its position in Google’s search engine results page. Here’s how the study worked: The researchers used a Twitter petition site called Twitition. com (clever eh?) that had listed a number of different websites and causes. Twitter users could sign a petition that supported their cause. For example, some chose to sign the petition entitled “Send Justin Bieber to Brazil. ” When Twitter users signed the petition, a tweet was automatically sent out from their account with that website’s URL. Since Twitition has well over a million Twitter followers,

How Big of a Factor is Quality in Google’s Rankings? We all know that Google looks at a factor called ‘Quality’ when determining your site’s rankings, but how much of a difference does quality actually make? What can ‘quality’ even be defined as? Unfortunately, there is no straight answer to that question, and every website owner seems to have a different opinion. To define how Google Quality Score, it helps to look at a 2011 post by Amit on Google’s official blog. This post clarified some of the tweaks made in the Panda algorithm update and provides a general idea of how much quality Google likes to see in your websites. Does the website provide valuable, trustworthy information? This is perhaps the most important step in assessing the quality of a website: is your website adding anything useful to the body of knowledge on a topic? Or is it shallow, repetitive, and unhelpful? Google Quality Score wants to direct its users to websites that will actually answer their questions, not w

How to Use Pinterest for Marketing If you haven’t already heard of Pinterest, then you may have been living under a rock for the last few weeks. Over the last month, the picture sharing website has exploded with growth and draws hundreds of thousands of hits per day. But what does Pinterest mean for the internet marketing community? Well, like any popular ‘it’ site, Pinterest has the potential to draw herds of traffic to your website. Today, we’re going to show you exactly how to do that – even if you have never used Pinterest before in your life. Pinterest basics Pinterest Marketing allows users to share pictures they like with their network of friends. These pictures can be funny, shocking, beautiful, whatever: users manage boards based around a certain theme, and they collect images that relate to that theme. A ‘War is Bad’ themed Pinterest board might have pictures of child soldiers in Africa or of the beaches in Normandy after D-Day. Once you pin something to your board, fa
