Opera Santa Barbara LibrettoJANUARY - APRIL 2012 This spring’s Marriage of Figaro brings the local professional debut of Karen Vuong and Brandon Cedel. Look familiar? You may have seen these talented singers in recent years while studying at the Music Academy of the West. Karen (Soprano, 2010–11 Academy Alumna) will sing Susanna, and Brandon Cedel (Bass-Baritone, 2010-11 Academy Alumnus) will take on the title role. A Los Angeles native, Karen was an inaugural member of L. A. Opera’s Domingo-Thornton Program, where she performed many roles including Mimì in their student production of La bohème, conducted by Plácido Domingo. She has sung at the Kentucky Opera and the Hollywood Bowl, and she is now pursuing her Artist Diploma at the Juilliard School. Karen was the winner of the Music Academy’s 2011 Marilyn Horne Competition. Brandon Cedel’s “big, appealing voice” has earned him first place in many of the nation’s top vocal competitions.
